White Lodge, Blackheath
The property was situated in remnant woodland on the fringes of Blackheath Village and the client wanted to create a garden out of the stands of beech and horse chestnut that covered much of the site.
The garden was designed in two sections. A long border was created against an old Victorian red brick wall that ran along the southern boundary of the site.
Phormium, Euphorbia griffithii and Berberis thunbergii ‘Tricolor’ provided summer interest and a backdrop for black Tulips and Forget-Me-Nots in the late spring. The color themes were matched to compliment and contrast the aged brick.

This border led along a gravel path to the woodland garden at the rear of the property. A drystone wall and paved platform were situated to catch the evening sun and surrounded by mass plantings of oak leaf hydrangea (Hydrangea quercifolia) Hellebores and native ferns. Holly and Mahonia were used to give structure and provide a foil to the spring bulbs that were spread generously throughout the garden.
